MVCC offers Professional Development Training Courses
Mohawk Valley Community College will be offering non-credit courses to give you the certifications and information you need for your career. These include OSHA and security guard training.
10 Hour OSHA Training
This course is intended to provide a variety of awareness training on construction safety and health topics. The course is presented to employees and therefore places an emphasis on identifying common hazards in the construction industry as well as avoidance, control and prevention. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive an OSHA Construction Safety and Health 10-Hour card. Bring $5 to class for your card. Classes are Tuesdays, March 6 - 20, 6-9:30 pm on the Rome campus. Registration for either course is $75.
8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course for Security Guards
This is an 8 hour course required by New York State as the first step in obtaining a security guard registration card from the New York State Department of State. The course provides the student with a general overview of the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics covered in this course include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct. The passing of an examination is required for successful completion of this course. Classes are March 5 and 7 , 6-10:00 pm on the Utica campus, and April 2 and 4 from 6-10:00 pm on the Rome campus. Registration cost for either session is $60.
16 Hour On-the- Job Training Course for Security Guards
This is a 16 hour course that must be completed within 90 days of employment as a security guard. The course provides the student with detailed information on the duties and responsibilities a security guard. Topics covered in this course include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, ethics and conduct, incident command system, and terrorism. The passing of an examination is required for successful completion of this course. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays, April 16 - 25, 6-10:00 pm on the Utica campus. Registration cost is $99.

Office hours are 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Friday. All MVCC non-credit instruction is completely self-supporting, including indirect costs, and requires no public funding.
