MVCC Offers Non-Credit Leisure Learning in Couponing, Guitar, and the Great Outdoors
MVCC’s Center for Corporate and Community Education announces open registration for spring leisure learning classes. Have fun while learning something new!
Wilderness Survival: The Art of Self-Reliance
Wilderness survival is the process of using immediately available resources in an intelligent way to promote life in a wilderness environment. A true “survival” situation is unplanned, unexpected, and possibly life threatening. If a mishap occurs, a recreational weekend can turn into a life-threatening wilderness survival situation. This class will prepare you to handle such situations and train you in the skills necessary to overcome a wilderness emergency circumstance. This class will take place on Monday and Wednesday, April 1 and 3 from 6-9pm on the Utica Campus. The cost is $39.
Think Spring! Feasting Free on Wild Edibles
Have fun learning the art of feasting free on wild edibles! Through a series of slide shows, presentations and local nature walks you can learn to locate and prepare delicious and nutritious wild foods gathered free from Mother Nature’s gardens! In this class, you will learn more about what nature has to offer during the springtime! This class involves some traveling and walking through local natural areas. This class will take place on Saturdays from April 17 to May 18 from 9-12pm on the Utica Campus and local nature trails. The cost is $49.
Extreme Couponing: The Basics
Take those Sunday coupons to the next level! In this tough economy, saving money is no longer an option. It’s a necessity! Koupon Kathy will show you how to get the most for your money, and in some instances, how to MAKE MONEY while shopping! This workshop will cover all the basics and will get you on the right track to cutting your grocery and drug store bill. This class will take place on Tuesday, March 12 from 6-8pm on the Utica Campus. It will also take place on Tuesday, April 2 from 6-8pm on the Rome Campus. Cost is $15.
Guitar for Adult and Teen Beginners
This course is geared toward the absolute beginner who wants to learn the basics of guitar playing. The instructor will begin the course with a history of the guitar in popular music, citing the most influential players of the past & present. Using material drawn from popular music, including classic rock, you will learn to play simple songs, chords, and strumming patterns. Students will practice individually and together as a group. Please bring your own guitar. This class will take place on Saturdays from April 6 to April 27 from 10-12pm on the Utica Campus. The cost is $59.
