MVCC offers College for Kids and Teens Classes this Spring

Kids and teens of all ages can have some fun through Mohawk Valley Community College’s College for Kids and Teens. Offered by the Center for Corporate and Community Education, students can choose from athletic performance workshops, discussion of current social issues, swimming classes, or Toddler Swim and Gym.
Athletic Performance Workshop
This two-day workshop will boost self-confidence and provide young athletes with the tools they need to help train their minds as they do their bodies. For grades 9-12.
Boys: Sunday, Feb. 3 & 10, 1-5 p.m.
Girls: Sunday, Mar. 3 & 10, 1-5 p.m.

The Play’s the Thing
A theatre education specialist will teach students how to use their words, ideas, and concerns to create and produce a play by collaborating with other teens that are as passionate, focused, and creative. For ages 14-18.

Autism Movement Therapy
This new program, developed by Joanne Laria, provides an opportunity for individuals with autism and/or developmental disabilities to express themselves through music and dance. Through structured music and movement, both left and right hemispheres of the brain are stimulated. A parent/adult must accompany each student and be present for the entire class. For ages 6-17.

Competitive Lap & Fitness Swim
Participants who want to stay in shape for the off season will receive instruction in competitive swim strokes, turns, starts, and then swim laps on their own. Open to all ages, children must have level 5/6 swim skills. Goggles are recommended.
Tuesday, Jan. 29-Apr. 2, 7-8 p.m.
MVCC Utica Pool; Cost - $60
Parent and Toddler Aquatics
This class builds basic water safety skills for both parents and children and helps children adjust to the water environment. Parent must accompany child in water. For ages 1-3.
Thursday, Mar. 21-Apr. 25, 11-11:30 a.m.
MVCC Utica Pool; Cost - $29
Toddler Swim and Gym
This revamped class includes swim instruction and gym time. Pool time is comprised of a water safety instructor helping the child feel comfortable in the water; while gym time will include circle time with stories, songs, music, and instruments. Toddlers will also have the opportunity to run around a large gym, jump on exercise mats, and interact with other children. Parent must accompany child in pool and gym. For ages 1-3.

MVCC Utica Pool/Gym; Cost - $45
Homeschool Swim and Gym
Are you looking for some exercise and pool time for your student? Join us for play and recreation time in the small gym and American Red Cross swimming lessons in the pool. Students will exercise and practice strokes in the water. For ages 4-12.
Thursday, Mar. 21-Apr. 25, 9 – 11 a.m.

Enrollment is limited and will be taken on a first come basis. For more information or to register, call 792-5300 or visit www.mvcc.edu/cced. Office hours are 8:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Friday. All MVCC non-credit instruction is completely self-supporting, including indirect costs, and requires no public funding.
