Mohawk Valley Community College Offers Affordable Business Skills Seminars

MVCC’s Center for Corporate and Community Education announces open registration for the spring schedule of non-credit classes designed to improve business skills. These courses are geared toward the professional working to improve their skill set, specifically those in the non-profit business sector.
In this course you will learn how to write a grant and where to look for potential funders who are a good match for your organization and how to ramp up your grant efforts through partnerships. Learn how to develop successful, fundable grants from a local expert whose proposals have brought in millions in funded projects to the local area. This workshop is ideal for nonprofit organizations, schools, religious institutions, and municipalities seeking grants from foundation, corporate, government, and individual donors. This class will take place on Thursdays from March 7 to March 28 from 9-11am at the MVCC Education Center at 524 Elizabeth St., Utica. The cost is $150.
Increasing Volunteer Involvement
In this day and age, volunteers are the life blood of many organizations. How do you effectively recruit and manage these important people? This seminar will cover all the basics and give you the tips you need to make the most of the volunteers in your organization. We will discuss volunteers of all levels, from one day events to long term needs. You’ll learn how to recruit, train, retain, and evaluate your workers. This seminar is just what you need to take your volunteer effectiveness to the next level! This seminar will take place on Thursday, March 7 from 1-4pm at the Utica Campus. The cost is $39.
If you have wanted to become a notary public, but have been worried about the exam, this class will help. Don’t let the terminology scare you–you can become familiar with the terms and laws and learn the skills necessary to sit for the notary exam and earn the license to become a more valuable asset in your workplace. Cost: $50

Improve Your Fundraising Efforts
People make things happen, though money sure can help! Discover how you can find the public and private resources to make your agency more viable. Explore a variety of ways to fund your efforts, from grassroots fundraising to grant proposal writing. Discuss how your members can help make fundraising successful. Leave the workshop with ideas for specific fundraising strategies that you can use for your organization. This workshop will take place on Thursday, April 11 from 1-4pm at the Utica Campus. Cost is $39.
Preparing For Board Leadership
This half-day seminar will cover the basics on preparing for board leadership. Topics covered include: what to know before joining, adherence to the mission, accountability, planning, ethics, serving on committees, raising funds, and parliamentary procedures. This course will give you the skills you need to put your best foot forward in pursuing your goals of board leadership. This seminar will take place on Thursday, May 2 from 1-4pm at the Utica Campus. Cost is $49.

Office hours are 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Friday. All MVCC non-credit instruction is completely self-supporting, including indirect costs, and requires no public funding.
