2012 NJCAA National Champions!!!

Hawks Win National Title

The Mohawk Valley CC (N.Y.) women's outdoor track and field team clinched the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship title on Saturday, May 5th, during day three of competition at Pioneer Stadium on the campus of Alfred State College (N.Y.).

Mohawk Valley earned 150 points in the 22 events and finished with 43 more points than National Runner-up SUNY Delhi.

On a beautiful spring day meet records continued to fall. Savannah Boucher of Mohawk Valley broke her second record of the meet by winning the 3,000 steeplechase in 11:25.18   On Friday, Boucher set a new standard in the 5000m with a winning time of 18:12.81. Her time was 36 seconds faster than the previous record.  She won the 10,000m in 43:53.57 and finished second in the 1500.  (Stephanie Peck finished 3rd and Sara Rifendifer finished 5th).

Jackie Bakken of claimed the heptathlon title with 2,038 points.

Jenna Hoefer won the hammer throw for the Hawks while Carlin Chruscicki finished 4th. The 4x800 relay team (Stephanie Peck, Sara Rifendifer, Jackie Bakken, and Boucher) of MVCC also took home the national championship with a run of 10:03.27.

Shykiera Heyward won the 100-meter hurdles (14.98) and placed second in the high jump (5-3). Victoria Reynolds won in the javelin throw (107-4).

Mohawk Valley's Boucher was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Meet for the second year in a row.

Gary Parker of Mohawk Valley was named the Women's Coach of the Meet.

2012 Season Recap:

Under the direction of head coach Gary Parker (19th season) the Women’s Outdoor Track & Field team finished their season undefeated against two year college competition with a 33-0 record.  The team won the Region III Championship and capped their season by winning the program’s fifth NJCAA National Championship; the College’s 21st overall.  There were several individual accomplishments including the following:

Regional Champions – Savannah Boucher; 1500 meter run, Stephanie Peck; 5K, Heather Vroman; 10,000, Jenna Hoefer; Hammer, Shykiera Heyward; High Jump and 110 meter high hurdles, and the 4 X 800 meter relay team of Boucher, Peck, Sara Rifendifer and Jackie Bakken.

All-Americans – Savannah Boucher; 1500 meter run, *5,000, *10,000, and *Steeplechase, Jackie Bakken; *Heptathlon, Victoria Reynolds; *Javelin, Shykiera Heyward, *110 meter high hurdles and High Jump, Jenna Hoefer; *Hammer, and the 4 X 800 meter relay team of Boucher, Peck, Bakken, and Sara Rifendifer.  Savannah Boucher was named the Track Athlete of the Meet for the second consecutive season.  The first time any athlete has been awarded this honor.
