MVCC Finished 2nd at Nationals!
2013 Region III Champions
Under the direction of head coach Jason Carpenter (4th season) the Women’s Basketball Team finished the season with a final record of 32-3. The Hawks won the Mountain Valley Conference and Region III Championship while finishing 2nd at the NJCAA National Tournament in Rochester, MN.
In the Region III Tournament the Hawks fought off Onondaga CC 74-69 to advance to Nationals where they defeated Westchester CC 55-51 and Roxbury CC 64-61 in overtime before losing to Rock Valley CC in the National Championship game.
The Hawks were led by Shaniece Brown; First Team All-American, Region III Player of the Year, All-Conference. Stevie Ray; First Team All-Region, All-Conference and Victoria Thomas; All-Conference.
The MVCC Hawks Basketball Team is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). They compete in Region III of Division III as well as being members of the tough Mountain Valley Conference. The Hawks play a 27 game regular season schedule against some of the best competition in the country at the two-year college level. The Hawks are characterized by unrelenting man to man pressure defense and an up-tempo running offense that stresses balance and unselfish passing. The program encourages each player to achieve their potential as individuals and as a team. Many of Coach Carpenter's athletes go on to play at four year schools with a large number earning athletic scholarships.
