Hawks Score Early Enroute to 8-3 Win.
The MVCC Men's soccer team, which earlier in the day rose to the 5th ranked team in the country in the most recent NJCAA National Poll, remained undefeated on the season with an 8-3 win over Jefferson Community College today in Utica.
The Hawks got out at a 6-1 halftime lead on goals from Armin Mekic (Utica, NY/Proctor HS), Tyler Deluca (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills HS), David Gould (Frankfort, NY/Frankfort-Schuyler HS) and Abraham Morales (Fleischmanns, NY/Margretville HS).
The scoring continued early in the second half on a goal by the nation's leading scorer, Armin Budnjo (Utica, NY/Proctor HS) and was capped off with a hat trick by freshman Morales. Budnjo has scored 12 goals on the season, and now sits one goal behind tying the MVCC all-time record for goals in a career, which was set by Samir Sisic (1999-2000).
MVCC improved to 8-0-1 on the season and next faces North Country Community College on Saturday in Saranac Lake. The Hawks return home on Saturday, Oct. 1st vs Clinton CC at 2:00, which is also the MVCC Men's soccer Alumni weekend. An Alumni game will be played immediately following the Hawks game with Clinton CC.
