Hawks finish regualar season with a win
The Hawks, currently ranked 9th in the country in the NJCAA National Poll, improved to 15-2-1 on the season. MV started the scoring 6 minutes into the game on a goal by Armin Budnjo (Utica, NY/Proctor HS). After a brilliant save on a long distant shot, MVCC keeper Shane Connelly (Wolcott, NY/Red Creek HS) sent a long ball that Budnjo gathered deep in FMCC territory, made a few moves, and drilled a shot past the keeper. A few minutes later, MVCC doubled their lead on a spectacular goal by Tyler Deluca (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills HS). The Hawks finished the first half by adding another goal, this time by Armin Mekic (Utica, NY/Proctor HS). The second half saw the MVCC score three more goals by David Gould (Frankfort, NY/Frankfort-Schuyler HS), Noel Nyakwamba , and a second goal by Deluca. FMCC avoided the shutout in the closing minute of the game on a well-placed free kick by Sam Mignon.
The Hawks now enter Regional play as the #3 seed, earning a first-round bye. MVCC will play the winner of Cayuga CC and Niagara CCC, which will be played on Saturday. The winner will travel to Utica to play on Tuesday at a time to be determined.
