Weekly Sports Report 11-5-12

The Women’s Soccer Team will begin their quest for the program’s second National Championship on Thursday, November 8th at 5:30pm. The Hawks will be playing Holyoke CC of Massachusetts at Tompkins Cortland CC in the NJCAA Nationals. MVCC placed three athletes on the All-Region III Team this year; Meghan Carlo(Oriskany) First Team Forward, Samantha Getman(Whitesboro) First Team Midfield, Nicole Burline(Sauquoit) Second Team Defense, and Brittany McGraw-Wixson(Clay) Second Team Defense.

The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams will be competing at the NJCAA National Championships this coming weekend at SUNY Delhi. The Women’s Team enters the race as the second ranked team in the nation behind only Gloucester CC of New Jersey. Meanwhile, the Men’s Team is currently ranked #5 in the Nation.

The Women’s Basketball Team opened up the 2012-13 campaign at the Anthony Torchia Memorial Tournament here at MVCC. The host squad cruised to the Tournament Championship with a 72-30 victory over Lackawanna CC before beating Jefferson CC in the Championship game by a score of 66-38. Mornique Murphy (William C. Bryant) was the Tournament MVP. Next up for the Hawks are two tough road games against Broome CC on November 6th and then Finger Lakes CC on November 8th.

The Men’s Basketball Team tipped off the 2012-13 season last weekend at the Anthony Torchia Memorial Tournament hosted by MVCC.  The Hawks won their opening game over Queensborough CC by a score of 94-51 to advance to the Championship game where they fell to the Thomas School 78-72. Alexshay Pearce (Rochester) chipped in 11 and 17 points in the two games. MVCC travels to Broome CC on Tuesday, November 6th and Finger Lakes on Thursday, November 8th.
