Mohawk Valley CC Weekly Sports Report 1/21/13
The Women’s Basketball Team improved to 16-0 on the season with victories over Queensborough 77-25 and SUNY Delhi 62-42. The Hawks are currently ranked #3 in the latest NJCAA poll. The Hawks host Adirondack CC on 1/21 before hitting the road to face; Monroe on 1/24, Clinton CC on 1/26 and North Country CC on 1/27.
The Men’s Basketball Team improved to 11-6 on the season after taking two out of three contests. The Hawks defeated Columbia Greene CC and Queensborough CC with a loss to SUNY Delhi in between. The Hawks have a tough road week ahead at Herkimer CCC on 1/23 then Clinton CC on 1/26 and North Country CC on 1/27.
The Indoor Track Teams competed at St. Lawrence University this past weekend. Tim Stewart high jumped 6’0 qualifying him for Indoor Regionals and Outdoor Track Nationals. Carlin Chruscicki win her 2nd invitational in a row in the weight throw. Abbey Clark met the qualifying standards for Indoor Track Regionals with a weight throw of 32’5 ½”. Other Regional qualifiers included; Sara Rifendifer (1000), Chelsea Huyck (1000), Brittany Englert (5k) Andrea Szewcyk (mile) and Tom Arcuri (5k, 3k). The Hawks travel to Hamilton College on Saturday, January 26th.
The Women’s Bowling Team won the Hawk Invitational Tournament for the second consecutive year. The defending National Champs were led by Brittany Macrina and Kiamesha Philhower who won the doubles competition with a combined 8 game score of 1610. Macrina was also the All-Events Champion with an 8 game combined score of 1,687. The Hawks will compete at Hudson Valley on 1/22 and Columbia Greene on 1/23
