MVCC's Duross to play Division I baseball

Mohawk Valley Community College's baseball team will see senior catcher Garrett Duross heading south, as Duross has signed a letter of intent to continue his collegiate career at NCAA Division I power Saint Peter's College located in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Duross is a two-year starter behind the plate for the Hawks. This Criminal Justice major led the Hawks this season with a .398 batting average for 26 RBIs. Along with being named the team's Most Valuable Player, Duross also earned NJCAA All Region III and All Mountain Valley Conference honors.

A graduate of Johnstown High School, Duross is among the all-time Top 10 players for the Hawks in several categories. He is ranked fourth in hits with 77, fifth in total bases with 106, sixth in doubles (16) and triples (5), seventh in RBIs (43), and eighth in At-Bats (206), batting average (.373) and runs scored (47).

Saint Peter's College is a Division I program which competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The MAAC consists of Canisius, Manhattan, Siena, Rider, Fairfield, Niagara and Marist colleges. Saint Peter's College finished with a 7-16 record in the MAAC and 20-30 overall for 2008.

Saint Peter's College, also known as the Jesuit College of New Jersey, was founded in 1872 as an independent undergraduate Liberal Arts College in Jersey City, N.J. The college also has a campus in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.
