You will need to use your new MVCC ID number to access SIRS. All students should memorize the new MVCC ID number as soon as it is assigned.

This change in ID does not affect your Blackboard access. You receive your Blackboard access when you apply for an ID and password after registering for an on-line course.

The MVCC ID number is a unique identification number that will be your Primary identification number at the College, replacing the social security number (SSN). This number will have the letter M followed by 8 digits (1 alpha and 8 numeric); the alpha character will indicate that it is the new MVCC ID number is being used. This number will be automatically generated for each student. Students who also are employees will have the SSN replaced by the new MVCC ID number.

New students must go to the Admissions office with documentation to verify their identity. You should bring a document that contains your name with your picture, SSN and/or date of birth in order to get your new MVCC ID. This information will not be given out over the telephone. The College needs your social security number for several reasons, such as:

• The Department of Education requires your social security number to process your FASFA, to receive any form of Financial Aid and for reporting purposes.
• If you plan on taking advantage of any education-related tax credits, you must provide your social security number;
• Seeking employment at Mohawk Valley Community College;
• When trying to match your current records of enrollment with any previous enrollments you had at the College under a different identifying number.
• To provide an accurate record to another college or university as a result of a transcript request by you, or
• To verify attendance or degree(s) received when applying for licensure or to prospective employers.
• The College requires your SSN due to federal and state law requirements.

The failure to supply your social security number may hinder the processing of your transcripts, scholarship application, tax information, financial aid, etc., or the receipt of other requested services and information from the College and other third parties. The College will not be responsible for situations that may arise as a result of not having your social security number on file.

You will not need to acquire a new student MVCC ID card with your new MVCC ID number. But, if you do not have an MVCC ID card, you must obtain one from the Student Activities Office (Utica/Rome). Please note that the number on your MVCC ID card is not your new identification number (M number).

No, the College provides you with an MVCC ID card on a one-time no-fee basis. If you lose your MVCC ID card, you will be charged a replacement fee.

No, you can use your student number. However, there may be some difficulty locating all records that belong to you if you do not provide your SSN. Delayed processing of your transcript request and/or an incomplete transcript may result if you provide only your student ID number. The College will not be responsible for any delays or incomplete records if you elect not to provide us with your social security number.

If you have provided us with a social security number, it will appear on your transcript. If you do not provide us with your social security number the receiving institution may have difficulty matching the transcripts with your file. Some colleges and universities will not accept a transcript without a social security number. The College will not be responsible for any difficulties you might have if your social security number is not printed on your transcript.
