Graduation Frequently asked Questions (FAQs)
Students are encouraged to meet with academic advisors through out their studies, but students are ultimately responsible for meeting all the requirements for graduation.
The Registrar's office will make every effort to process the graduation for that semester, but the office also has deadlines to report final counts graduates for the commencement ceremony and for state reports. We recommend that you file the application at the end of your third semester.
You should still file the application for graduation. Make sure that courses that are taken at other institutions are equivalent to courses taught at MVCC. The academic department head can advise you as to the content of courses taught in your program.
You need to obtain a copy of the course number, title, course description, number of credits granted by the other institution. Some courses need to be checked with the academic department head who offers the course at MVCC.
Yes, you may attend. All students who attend commencement are "Candidates" for a certificate or degree. You do not graduate until the graduation is posted on your official transcript by the Registrar's Office.

Fill out a change of address form in the Registrar's Office or send a letter indicating where you want your diploma to be sent. Please sign the letter.
Diploma covers are given to students who attend commencement ceremony, or you may pick up a diploma cover directly from the Registrar's Office if you do not attend the commencement ceremony.
Forms are sent to the Academic Department of your program or certificate for certification.
Diplomas are sent to the permanent home address on record unless student indicates differently on the application for graduation form.
Note to students who did not graduate:
Students who do not meet the requirements for graduation will be notified in writing by the academic department offering the degree or certificate program. In order to reevaluate your student record for graduation, students must reapply for graduation by filling out a new application for graduation form.
