Department Welcome
On behalf of the mathematics faculty we welcome you to our departmental web page. We offer an AS degree
in Liberal Arts and Sciences for those who wish to study mathematics and transfer to a four-year institution. Our graduates continue their education in areas such as mathematics, computer science, engineering, statistics, actuary science, and mathematics education. While we have only one major program, we provide courses for all programs within the college in order to increase the problem solving and critical thinking skills of all students. By offering a broad range of courses the department strives to aid all students on their paths to success. Our mathematics club is open to all students who wish to explore topics in mathematics beyond the classroom. In addition, we sponsor an annual mathematics competition that is open to all area high school students. Under the sponsorship of NYSMATYC, a statewide mathematics association, several members develop and coordinate NYSMATYC's statewide mathematics competition that is taken by students at two-year colleges across the state. Please browse through our site. We will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Graduate Quote
I was a dual major in computer science and mathematics. I believe that majoring in mathematics increased my ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently, both of which are necessary in the workplace. The mathematics professors at MVCC challenged me to work hard and were always there to guide me when I was lost. As a result of my mathematics degree I feel more prepared for the many problems that I will have to provide solutions for in my career, and in the pursuit of my Bachelor's degree.
