This course introduces the field of appliance repair. It includes electrical theory and wiring, electric motors, and controls. The proper use and care of hand power tools and test equipment required in the field are covered. Proper methods of troubleshooting, diagnosis, and appliance repair are stressed.
This course is a continuation of VT 131, with emphasis on electrical heating units, gas appliances, and major appliances. The proper methods of troubleshooting and repair are stressed.
The course introduces domestic refrigeration and small air conditioners. It includes the history of refrigeration, basic refrigeration theory, proper methods of troubleshooting, and repair of domestic units. The use and care of hand power tools and test equipment are covered.
A continuation of part 1 with emphasis on proper methods of diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of domestic refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners. Schematic diagrams, temperature systems will be included.
This course is designed to develop the students' skills in the diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of commercial refrigeration systems, free-standing and remote air conditioning units. Installation of units, wiring, and controls will be taught. Prerequisite: VT134 Refrigeration & Air Conditioning 2 or permission of instructor.
This course covers knowledge of the skill involved in operating a small business. It examines the necessary managerial and operational skills for proprietorship and the available resources for small business. Areas covered include self-assessment, planning, decision-making, legal forms of business, record-keeping, business insurance, taxes, financing, advertising, and promotion. A realistic business plan is developed.
