About the Program

The program was developed at the request of, and in cooperation with, the New York Association for Pupil Transportation (NYAPT), which is a 700+ member professional organization comprised of transportation supervisors and managers from the State's school districts, BOCES, colleges and universities.

The purpose of the program is to prepare personnel for management positions in transportation, especially Pupil Transportation, and to further enhance the skills of those already occupying such positions. Graduates of the program will be effective and efficient in decision-making situations in Transportation Management. Students will be equipped to stay abreast of critical issues in their changing environment.

About MVCC

Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) is a multi-campus community college. The main campus is in Utica, New York and a branch campus is in the neighboring city of Rome, N.Y. MVCC is sponsored by Oneida County and is affiliated with the State University of New York. The College enrolls approximately 5,000 students each year both full and part-time. MVCC offers approximately 100 different degree and certificate program options.

Are you ready for online learning?

All the courses in this certificate program are designed to be completed via the Internet. No extensive computer experience is necessary, but experience with e-mail and Microsoft Word are helpful. Online learning provides you with the freedom and flexibility of distance education: no classroom location to find, or set time to attend class. However, it does require that you:

  • have a computer with an active internet connection
  • .
  • know how to use e-mail and a word processing program like Microsoft Word.
  • keep your system updated.
  • have the self-discipline to set up a regular schedule of when to do assignments.
  • be aware of deadlines when your assignments are due back to your instructor.
  • be responsible to read the course syllabus - your instruction set for what is required, grading policies, exams and /or assignments and dates, etc.
  • will communicate with your instructor if you have questions - make sure that you have the instructor's e-mail address handy for each course.

How to apply for Admission to the program

Go to Admissions Application. Read the instructions for completing the application. You can fill in the application on your computer and then print the result or, if you prefer, you can print it out and fill out by hand. There is no cost for the application.

Documents required to complete your application:

  1. Proof of High School graduation or H.S. Equivalency Diploma (GED)
    • High School Graduates
      Recent high school graduates can contact their high school and have the school forward an official high school transcript to MVCC Admissions
      or
      For those who have been out of school for a number of years, you can forward a copy of your high school diploma to MVCC directly with your application.
    • General Equivalency/Education Degree (GED) holders
      If you did not graduate from high school, but have earned a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) you can forward a photo copy of your General Education Degree. If you have lost your GED and need a new copy you will need to contact the agency in the state in which you received your GED to request a new copy. If you received a New York State GED, you can call the GED Hotline at (518) 474-5906 to request a new GED.
  2. Credit for Prior College course work
    List all colleges on your application from which you expect to receive college credit in the program at MVCC. You must contact each college listed and have them forward an official transcript of your record so that we can evaluate the credit for transfer. Course credits can only be evaluated for transfer if a copy of the transcript from the college at which the credit was earned is presented for evaluation.

Once your application is complete, you will be notified by the Admissions Office of your acceptance.

As you read through the checklist, you will find links to forms that you will need to print out, complete and return to various campus offices.
