Guidelines for Survey Development and Distribution of Results
In an effort to coordinate surveys on campus, the Institutional Effectiveness Committee has
drafted the following guidelines for survey development and distribution of results. These guidelines pertain to all surveys developed and/or administered at the College, except those
surveys conducted as part of research as outlined in the Research Policy found in the College Catalog. Units should document the use of the results obtained from each survey instrument,
as appropriate.

In 1985 SUNY Central Administration contracted with the American College
Testing Program Inc. to develop a SUNY Student Opinion Survey to collect
data on student satisfaction with various aspects of the college experience
at SUNY two- and four-year instituions.?The survey is scheduled to be
administered every three years. Feedback from colleges suggested a need
for a separate survey that would be more appropriate for the SUNY community
colleges, and administration of two versions of the SOS began in 2003.?
Further changes were reflected in the 2006 SOS survey instrument. You can find more information on the 2006 SOS at the SUNY Central Administration website.
